Windy Corner

windy.jpg (335721 bytes) As you can see, one side of this short ridge drops off. The other side was steep rock-hard ice. We walked a tiny ledge, sometimes less than a foot wide, worn down by many sets of crampons in passing. The steep section was only 40-50 feel long, but so far this was the most difficult part of our climb.

Our heavy sleds would not trail behind us on the tiny ledge. They immediately slid downwards, pulling at our waists. Below the steep ice slope were crevasses.

Needless to say, each step was taken very carefully.
