Why did we pick June?
| The
regular climbing season on the West Buttress Route is from April through July. In general,
early in the climbing season, there are less open crevasses, more clear days, it is
colder, winds are higher, and there is less daylight. Later in the season it is warmer,
the crevasse danger is considerably greater, and storms are more frequent. Mid season has
the longest amount of daylight. It was all very confusing trying to decide which month was
best for us. There seemed to be no period within the season that was perfect. We decided to go with the statistics. I called the Denali Park Service and asked which month has the best success ratio. They told me June. It was as simple as that, we decided to go in June. |
